Serbia’s automotive industry recorded strong gains in both production and foreign trade during the first half of 2026, increasing its share of the country’s manufacturing activity and exports.
Vehicle production expands sharply
Production of motor vehicles and trailers rose 47.1% year on year in the first six months, significantly outpacing overall manufacturing growth of 1.8%.
The automotive sector was among the strongest-performing areas of Serbia’s industrial economy during the period, as production growth accelerated while manufacturing as a whole recorded more limited expansion.
Automotive exports reach €2.8 billion
The sector also recorded substantial growth in international trade. Automotive exports increased 51.1% to €2.8 billion in January-June. Motor vehicles and trailers became Serbia’s largest manufacturing export category, accounting for 15.4% of manufacturing exports, compared with 11.1% a year earlier. Total manufacturing exports increased 9% over the same period.
Imports rise alongside production
Imports of motor vehicles and trailers grew 35% to €1.4 billion in the first six months. The increase reflected domestic demand as well as the import content associated with Serbia’s expanding automotive production chain.
