Serbia’s transport and logistics sector recorded higher turnover in the first half of 2026, while freight volumes showed a more uneven performance across transport modes.
Turnover in transport and storage increased 3.9% in January-June, with second-quarter revenue up 4.7% year on year. The strongest gains came from individual segments of the logistics market.
Transport and logistics services expand
Water-transport turnover rose 29.8%, while warehousing and supporting transport activities increased 13.4%. Air-transport turnover was 55.8% higher than in the first quarter. The increase in logistics-related turnover contrasted with the overall volume of goods transported. Total freight volumes declined 0.5% during the first half of the year. Inland-waterway transport recorded a 15.6% decline in freight volumes, although total freight transported in the second quarter was 1.9% higher year on year.
Road transport remains the largest freight segment
Road transport accounted for 53.1% of all freight transported in the second quarter. Rail transport represented 22.1%, pipelines 13.4%, and inland waterways 11.3%. The performance indicates that turnover growth in Serbia’s logistics industry was accompanied by changes in the composition of transport activity, alongside higher activity in warehousing, handling and supporting services. The contrasting results across transport modes also show significant differences in freight performance between individual parts of the logistics network.
