Serbia recorded 3.3 million tourist overnight stays in the second quarter of 2026, marking a return to growth after a modest decline in tourism during 2025. Overnight stays increased 3.8% year on year between April and June. Domestic visitors accounted for 51.6% of total overnight stays, while foreign tourists represented 48.4%.
Foreign markets account for growing share
Serbia recorded 12.3 million overnight stays in 2025, down from 12.7 million in 2024. Among foreign markets, visitors from Russia generated around 304,000 overnight stays during the first half of 2026, followed by Turkey with approximately 288,000. North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China and Montenegro were also identified among the important foreign source markets.
Accommodation and food services expand
Tourism growth was accompanied by increased activity across accommodation and food services. Turnover in accommodation and food-service activities rose 14.6% year on year in the second quarter, adding to broader growth in Serbia’s service economy. Foreign visitors accounted for nearly half of all overnight stays during the quarter, compared with the earlier period when domestic tourism represented a larger share of demand.
