Business services employed close to 600,000 people in Serbia in the second quarter, making transport, ICT, technical services, hospitality, real estate and administrative support a major part of the country’s employment structure. The group accounted for roughly one in every four registered employees, reflecting the scale of employment across service activities alongside traditional manufacturing, agriculture and public administration.
Transport and technical services lead employment
Transport and storage was the largest individual employer within the business-services group, with almost 130,000 workers. Professional, scientific and technical activities and administrative support each employed more than 120,000 people, while information and communications employed more than 115,000. Accommodation and food services accounted for just under 100,000 jobs. Employment in real estate remained comparatively limited, at slightly above 10,000 workers.
Business-services turnover also expands
The employment figures coincided with a 10.5% increase in business-services turnover during the first half of the year.
Within the sector, professional, scientific and technical activities recorded 21.8% growth, adding to the expansion of specialised services. The employment structure shows an increasing share of Serbia’s workforce engaged in service activities, including engineering, ICT and specialised advisory services, while the sector’s growth has been accompanied by demand for qualified workers.
