The Government of Serbia has officially requested a 180-day extension of the U.S. license allowing the continued operation of Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), citing the importance of energy security and compliance efforts with U.S. sanctions. The current license expires on July 29.
Energy Minister Dubravka Đedović Handanović emphasized that the request aims to ensure uninterrupted operations at the Pančevo refinery and maintain stable fuel supply. The Serbian government maintains that sanctions on NIS are unjustified and has outlined measures taken to align with sanction requirements, warning that any disruption could seriously impact the country’s energy stability, economy, and citizens.
