At the recent Kopaonik Business Forum, Dragana Marković, the Director of the Tax Administration of Serbia, announced the signing of a contract for a new software platform developed in the United States. This initiative aims to modernize Serbia’s tax administration system and enhance its operational efficiency.
The agreement, finalized at the end of the previous year, marks a significant digital upgrade to Serbia’s fiscal infrastructure. According to Marković, the new platform will streamline taxpayer procedures, automate internal processes, and improve the transparency and speed of revenue collection. The implementation phase is currently in progress.
This software solution is already utilized by 65 tax administrations worldwide, with full implementation in Finland. By adopting this technology, Serbia positions itself among the first countries in Continental Europe to integrate this specific architecture within its tax authority framework.
The modernization is anticipated to alleviate administrative burdens for businesses by reducing processing times for filings and refunds while establishing more predictable compliance procedures. Additionally, it aims to enhance risk assessment capabilities for the state, improve audit targeting, and bolster overall tax collection performance.
This initiative aligns with Serbia’s broader digital transformation strategy, which has included advancements such as e-invoicing and electronic fiscalization over the past decade. The modernization of the tax administration is viewed as a structural reform with long-term implications for fiscal stability, as improved compliance and efficiency can directly influence budget predictability and revenue generation.
By incorporating advanced software infrastructure, the Tax Administration seeks to better align with international standards in public revenue management, thereby establishing a more technologically sophisticated and data-driven fiscal framework in Serbia.
