Serbia’s leading insurance provider, Dunav Osiguranje, achieved a notable increase in profitability for the year 2025, with net income rising by approximately 40% to around 4.3 billion dinars. This growth is attributed to stable premium development alongside enhanced cost efficiency.
The company’s total business revenues saw a moderate increase of 7.9%, reaching about 40.3 billion dinars. The substantial profit growth was primarily driven by operational improvements and effective claims management rather than a significant rise in top-line revenue.
The motor third-party liability segment remains a crucial source of earnings, contributing over half of the total profits. This reflects the strong position of compulsory motor insurance in Serbia’s insurance market, where stable pricing and consistent volume provide a solid foundation for earnings.
On the expense side, Dunav Osiguranje benefited from reduced provisions for claims and more controlled growth in claims expenses, which significantly enhanced net profitability compared to revenue growth.
Total gross written premiums reached approximately 50 billion dinars, supported by an 8.3% growth rate. Non-life insurance continues to dominate, while life insurance exhibited a higher growth rate of around 13.6%, albeit from a smaller base.
Dunav Osiguranje’s performance solidifies its status as one of the prominent insurance providers in Southeast Europe, backed by robust technical reserves and growing investment assets that have previously exceeded 50 billion dinars.
Despite the strong earnings growth, there are indications that the distribution of value to shareholders may remain limited. Market analysts suggest that minority shareholders might not experience a proportional increase in returns, indicating a focus on capital retention and internal reinvestment instead of aggressive dividend payouts.
Overall, these results reflect a broader trend in Serbia’s insurance sector, where profitability is increasingly driven by technical efficiency and disciplined pricing strategies rather than rapid premium increases. Dunav’s performance in 2025 underscores margin consolidation within a mature and heavily regulated market, where scale and underwriting discipline play critical roles in sustaining long-term profitability.
