Elektromreža Srbije (EMS) has started building a two-system 400 kV transmission line from Obrenovac to Bajina Bašta, marking the third section of the Trans-Balkan electricity corridor. The 109-kilometer line, featuring 309 poles, is a €71 million project expected to complete by 2027. It includes upgrading substations at Obrenovac and Bajina Bašta to 400 kV and replacing old 220 kV lines in western Serbia.
Funded by a €64.5 million KfW loan, a €21 million Western Balkans Investment Framework donation, and EMS resources, the project strengthens Serbia’s energy stability, supports energy transition, and improves connectivity between Eastern and Western European energy markets.
The Trans-Balkan Corridor’s first two sections were completed in 2017 and 2022, with a fourth section planned to link Bajina Bašta with Bosnia and Montenegro by 2028. The entire corridor project is valued at over €200 million and aims to enhance regional electricity transmission capacity and integrate renewable energy resources.
