Turkish renewable energy firm Fortis Energy has received a construction permit for a significant solar power and battery storage project in northern Serbia, specifically near Sremska Mitrovica. This initiative involves the establishment of a 270 MWp photovoltaic power plant, complemented by a 72 MWh battery energy storage system, marking it as one of the largest integrated solar-plus-storage projects in the region.
The approved project includes a 180 MW AC grid connection, which will facilitate substantial power delivery to Serbia’s transmission network once it becomes operational. The facility is planned to be situated south of the Sava River, close to the village of Drenovac, with construction slated to commence in the second quarter of 2026.
Documentation related to the project indicates that the permitting process was conducted in collaboration with local authorities, ensuring that both technical and environmental standards were met during the approval stages. The installation is anticipated to enhance Serbia’s renewable energy capacity and improve grid flexibility through its battery storage capabilities.
This endeavor aligns with Fortis Energy’s broader strategy for regional expansion, as the company seeks to significantly boost its renewable energy installations across Southeast Europe in the upcoming years.
