HP Company and the Project Management Unit Research and Development signed a contract on purchase of two supercomputers worth 715,000 dollars for the Institute of Physics and for the Kragujevac-based Research Center for Bioengineering, Scientific Computing and Software Development. HP Director Milos Djurkovic stated that this is a historic moment for the Serbian science as supercomputers will place Serbia on the world map of countries with this kind of technology. According to him, implementation of such computers is not only significant in the field of science, but also in the economic field. Serbia now has a chance to become a regional center in the sphere of supercomputing. Among other things, supercomputers will be used in medicine and climate change research. Director of the Institute of Physics Aleksandar Belic pointed that the new equipment will be linked with the European network of supercomputers in order to exchange knowledge and experience.
