Japanese industrial equipment manufacturer Mayekawa is expanding its production operation in Smederevo with an investment of about RSD 306.8 million (€2.6 million), adding manufacturing space and new testing capabilities to its Serbian facility. Mayekawa SRB has obtained a building permit for the third phase of the plant’s development, covering approximately 2,424 square metres of net production space. The expansion includes a new production hall equipped with crane infrastructure, a dedicated chiller testing station and control room, supporting facilities and a transformer station.
New testing capacity added to Serbian operation
The new testing infrastructure will expand the technical activities performed at the Smederevo facility alongside the additional production capacity. Mayekawa manufactures compressors and industrial refrigeration systems for applications including food processing, cold storage, logistics and other industrial activities.
The Smederevo plant was established as the Japanese group’s second European production site and serves customers outside Serbia as well as the domestic market. Mayekawa SRB generated about RSD 3.56 billion (€30 million) in revenue in 2025 and had an average workforce of 123 employees.
Expansion strengthens Smederevo manufacturing base
The latest investment adds capacity to an existing foreign manufacturing operation rather than establishing a new greenfield facility. The project represents a further expansion by an established international manufacturer in Serbia, while increasing the manufacturing and technical functions performed at the company’s Smederevo site.
The investment also adds to the diversification of Smederevo’s industrial base, where steelmaking and heavy industry remain major activities. Smederevo’s industrial location includes access to the Danube as well as road and rail connections and proximity to Belgrade, supporting manufacturing and logistics activity.
Mayekawa deepens Serbian production footprint
The third phase expands Mayekawa’s existing Serbian operation with additional production and testing infrastructure. The investment adds manufacturing and testing functions to the company’s established presence, increasing the scope of activities carried out at the Smederevo facility. For Serbia’s manufacturing base, the expansion represents reinvestment by an existing foreign manufacturer, with additional capacity covering both production and technical testing at the site.
