Production at Kragujevac emerged as a major contributor to Serbia’s industrial performance in 2026, with motor vehicle manufacturing posting substantial growth and providing a significant boost to the country’s manufacturing sector.
According to the MAT report, production of motor vehicles and trailers increased 52.2% year on year in April 2026, while output for the January–April period rose 51.7%. The sector contributed approximately 2.87 percentage points to overall manufacturing performance, making it one of the largest drivers of Serbia’s industrial expansion.
Stellantis Production Expands Automotive Output
The increase has been led by Stellantis through production of the Fiat Grande Panda platform in Kragujevac, returning the city to a central role in Serbia’s automotive industry after a period during which supplier facilities accounted for a larger share of the country’s automotive activity than finished-vehicle manufacturing.
The resumption of large-scale vehicle production strengthens Serbia’s manufacturing output, increases export potential and reinforces the country’s position within European automotive supply chains.
Export Potential and Production Mix
Higher vehicle production supports goods exports, improves utilization of domestic logistics networks, benefits supplier companies and strengthens Serbia’s trade position in European Union markets.
The MAT report also states that adding a petrol-powered version alongside the electric model could increase production volumes and reduce reliance on a single technology segment.
Local Supply Chains Determine Broader Industrial Impact
The economic effect of higher finished-vehicle exports depends on the share of domestic value added incorporated into production. Imported components can increase export values without generating a proportional expansion of Serbia’s industrial base.
The report identifies opportunities to strengthen domestic participation through production of metal components, electronics, plastics, software, battery-related parts, logistics services, maintenance activities and engineering capabilities linked to the Kragujevac manufacturing platform.
Reliance on a single vehicle model can also have a significant influence on Serbia’s industrial production and export statistics. Changes in model cycles, production schedules or market demand can affect national manufacturing performance, making supplier ecosystem development an important factor in the broader impact of automotive investment.
The 51.7% increase in vehicle production during the first four months of 2026 underscores the growing role of Kragujevac in Serbia’s industrial sector as production of the Fiat Grande Panda expands.
