The Adriatic Pipeline company (JANAF) has been granted a new license by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to continue transporting crude oil for the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) until August 27, 2025.
JANAF’s announcement noted that the license, issued on July 28, 2025, extends the contract for crude oil transportation previously secured despite the U.S. sanctions imposed on Russia’s energy sector on January 10, 2025. These sanctions also include NIS.
The contract between JANAF and NIS covers the period from February 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026, with JANAF’s transport capacities reserved on a “full for empty” basis for a total of 10 million tons of oil during the contract.
With the support of the Croatian government and assistance from an American law firm, JANAF has previously obtained four consecutive OFAC licenses, allowing continuous execution of the contract despite the sanctions effective from February 27, 2025.
