The South Timok copper-gold project in eastern Serbia has commenced its first exploration drilling campaign, a significant development in the region’s mineral exploration landscape. This initiative is a result of a strategic partnership between Canadian company Mundoro Capital and global mining firm BHP, with BHP providing the funding for the exploration while Mundoro takes on the role of project operator.
The initial phase of this drilling program involves up to 2,500 meters of diamond drilling, focusing on several priority zones that have been identified through comprehensive geological, geochemical, and geophysical surveys conducted over the last two years. The primary aim is to evaluate the presence of porphyry-style copper and gold mineralization, which is commonly linked to large-scale mining operations with extended lifespans.
Covering an area of approximately 306 square kilometers, the South Timok project consists of four contiguous exploration licenses situated 40 to 70 kilometers south of the Bor mining complex, recognized as one of Europe’s prominent copper-gold districts. This location is part of the larger Timok Magmatic Complex, which has garnered increasing attention from international mining entities due to its established mineral potential.
The initiation of drilling at South Timok is a pivotal step toward assessing the geological capabilities of the site. The data generated from this exploration will be crucial for informing subsequent phases of exploration, resource definition, and long-term development strategies.
