The planned gold mine on Rogozna near Novi Pazar will bring no benefits to local residents and will instead leave environmental damage, according to geologist Zoran Đajić.
Speaking on the radio show Zeleni minuti, Đajić emphasized that “there is no such thing as green mining” and highlighted multiple risks, including toxic waste deposits and mining tailings that remain after metal extraction. He noted that agricultural production, like tomatoes, can yield higher profits per hectare than mining.
Đajić criticized the Ministry of Mining and Energy for signing contracts with foreign companies that prioritize profits over the environment and public welfare. He warned that if the current government remains in power, all planned mines are likely to be opened, potentially at the expense of citizens’ rights and the environment.
