At the Jahorina Economic Forum, Dušan Živković, General Director of the Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS), highlighted EPS’s crucial role in Serbia and the wider region as a leader in energy transition, diversification and security.
Živković emphasized EPS’s investments in renewable energy, modernization of capacities, and strategic financial management, making it a key pillar of stability in Southeast Europe. He stressed the importance of diversifying both energy sources and financing to meet growing energy demands and decarbonization goals without compromising energy security.
EPS is focused on revitalizing 80% of its hydro power plants, modernizing thermal plants, and expanding renewable projects, including small solar and wind power plants and a major 1,000 MW solar power plant. A strategic project under development is the reversible hydro power plant “Bistrica,” in partnership with foreign investors.
Živković also noted regional cooperation projects, such as the Upper Drina hydro plant with Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske, and potential joint ventures in wind and solar energy. He concluded that EPS aims to lead the region’s energy transition by promoting new operating models and ensuring energy security for the future.
