Nikola Jovanović, director of the Center for Local Self-Government, stated that the exclusion of the Belgrade Stock Exchange from the regional exchange alliance initiated by the EBRD is very negative news for both the capital and Serbia.
He noted that this absence, which currently includes eight countries and stock exchanges, sends a poor signal to investors and will make it more difficult for Serbian companies and entrepreneurs to raise capital.
Jovanović also highlighted that the Belgrade Stock Exchange has been in decline for years, with trading volume last year at just 28 million euros, emphasizing that a city without a functioning stock exchange, port, or intermodal terminals lacks the basic infrastructure needed for development.
