According to the latest data from the Republic Institute of Statistics, the average monthly income of Serbian households in 2024, including both cash and in-kind contributions, amounted to 97,705 dinars, while expenditures for personal consumption reached 98,165 dinars.
Compared to 2023, the average monthly income increased by 11.1%, while expenditures for personal consumption saw a nominal increase of 11.2%. The largest share of household income comes from salaries and regular employment, which constitute 53.4% of total income, followed by pensions at 30.6%.
Other sources of income include agriculture, hunting, and fishing (3.9%), in-kind contributions (2.6%), income from non-regular employment (2.3%), and social security payments (2.3%). Income from other sources accounts for 4.9%.
The largest portion of household expenditures is spent on food and non-alcoholic beverages, which account for 36.6% of total expenditures. The next largest share is spent on housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, which make up 16.3%. Other significant expenditures include transportation (8.9%), personal items and other services (5.9%), communications (5.4%), recreation and culture (5.2%), clothing and footwear (4.7%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.4%), and health (4.1%). The remaining 8.5% is allocated to other personal consumption categories.
Specifically, Serbian households spend on average 35,919 dinars monthly on food, 16,027 dinars on housing-related expenses, and 8,698 dinars on transportation.
