Slovakia is lobbying for Serbia to become an EU candidate-state by the end of this year, the head of the Press Service of the Slovakian Foreign Ministry, Petra Greksova, said. We are doing that in the same way as we did for Croatia – by persuading our partners during talks and by giving support to the EU enlargement process, she said, commenting on media reports on an informal group of countries lobbying for Serbia. She emphasized that Serbia should show that it fulfils the requirements and standards specified in EU documents and especially in regular European Commission reports. We believe tha the results achieved by Serbia, especially in the reform implementation process, will enable the Commission to propose a candidate’s status for Serbia in October, she assessed.
