Shareholders of the Belgrade-based transport company “Lasta” approved a proposal on September 8, 2025, to initiate bankruptcy proceedings through a pre-prepared reorganization plan (UPPR). The move was led by the new majority owner, Strela-Obrenovac, which holds 84% of the company.
The decision authorizes management to take all necessary steps to implement the UPPR, citing the company’s prolonged financial and operational crisis. Lasta’s core service, public passenger transport, is considered of public interest and the reorganization aims to preserve it.
Financial data from 2024 shows Lasta suffered an operating loss of 1.38 billion dinars, with total accumulated losses reaching 2.51 billion dinars. Revenues fell to 6.98 billion dinars while expenses totaled 7.75 billion dinars, further strained by 468 million dinars in interest costs. Chronic illiquidity is critical, with only 25 million dinars in available cash at year-end versus short-term liabilities exceeding 6.4 billion dinars.
