Serbia will grant a national project status to the leg of the South Stream gas pipeline that’s under construction on its territory before the end of this month, since South Stream is strategically important to Serbia, the Balkan country’s Finance and Economics Minister, Mladjan Dinkic, said in a statement.
Russia seeks to acquire the EU status of cross-border European pipeline network for the project.
The effort will be made easier, if some countries grant a national project status to the legs of the pipeline that will be laid across their territory.
Commercial supplies of natural gas to Europe via South Stream are due to begin in 2016.
The pipeline is scheduled to operate at capacity, that’s pumping 63 billion cubic metres of gas per year, as of 2018.
