Nikola Stojanović, State Secretary at Serbia’s Ministry of Internal and Foreign Trade, announced that the ministry will continue talks with Chinese companies interested in investing in Serbia, particularly in the food sector, following the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen.
Stojanović emphasized that new Chinese companies, previously absent from the Serbian market, have shown interest, facilitated by the Serbia-China Free Trade Agreement. The participation at CIFIT aims to strengthen trade and investment ties, present favorable business conditions in Serbia, and attract projects from major companies like Zijin Mining, currently Serbia’s largest investor and exporter.
He highlighted the importance of leveraging the Free Trade Agreement to expand Serbian exports to all Chinese provinces, noting that exports to China have grown roughly 100-fold over the past decade. Serbia also aims to use trade agreements to position itself as a secure and competitive hub for international business, attracting foreign investments and providing tariff-free access for Serbian companies to Chinese markets.
Stojanović stressed that Serbia’s trade policy seeks to maintain independence from major trade blocs, allowing Serbian companies to operate successfully across China, the Middle East, North Africa, and other global markets while fostering a favorable business environment to boost investment and competitiveness in the region.
