Infrastructure modernization is a key focus of Serbia’s economic growth strategy. The European Investment Bank has approved a €150 million loan aimed at the reconstruction and enhancement of around 540 kilometres of both national and local roads, set to commence in early 2026.
The initiative is designed to bolster transport safety, decrease travel times, and improve climate resilience throughout the nation’s road network. Additionally, the European Union will provide technical assistance to ensure effective project execution and adherence to environmental standards.
Upgraded infrastructure is vital for Serbia’s positioning as a logistics hub within Southeast Europe. The country is strategically located at the intersection of several significant European transport corridors, facilitating transit between Central Europe, the Balkans, Turkey, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
The modernization of road infrastructure is expected to enhance trade flows and strengthen connectivity among key regional economic centers.
