During a visit to Niš marking 100 days of the Serbian government, Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade Jagoda Lazarević stated that Serbia has successfully engaged in active communication with the United States to enter the group of countries negotiating favorable trade conditions after the U.S. postponed imposing tariffs until August 1.
She emphasized Serbia’s commitment to protecting its exporting companies and securing beneficial terms for importing American products. Lazarević noted that while the U.S. approach is generally asymmetric and prioritizes its own interests, Serbia will strive to negotiate the best possible deal.
Serbia faces a challenge due to previously high reciprocal tariff rates caused by statistical differences, which complicate negotiations. However, the Serbian negotiating team is determined to achieve favorable outcomes.
Lazarević also mentioned that August 1 is not a firm deadline, and there is some flexibility in the timeline. Despite the U.S. being strict even with close trading partners, Serbia is committed to fighting for its economic interests in these talks.
