Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) announced that shifting electricity bill payments from the Treasury to commercial bank accounts will have no impact on customers. This transition, begun in 2018, was phased across various regional centers, with the final transfer of the Belgrade center this year.
EPS confirmed that payments for the Belgrade center will now be processed through the current account of Alta Bank, a private bank owned by businessman Davor Macura, known for ties to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party. Although EPS did not disclose why Alta Bank was chosen, it stated that among six banks bidding, Alta Bank offered the lowest commission fees and best terms.
The company did not provide details on costs for customers, whether it purchased software for Alta Bank’s billing system “Account Insight,” or if all future transactions will be routed through this bank.
EPS emphasized that any claims suggesting negative consequences for electricity consumers are unfounded and intended to harm the company’s reputation.
