Addressing his compatriots living in Serbia, French Ambassador to Belgrade Jean-Louis Falconi pointed out that economic relations between the two countries have progressed despite the coronavirus pandemic, and that he is privileged among his colleagues in the world that the coronavirus vaccination campaign has begun and is functioning in Serbia.
“Despite this epidemic of Covid, relations between France and Serbia at the economic and political level, are at the highest level, and even continue better and more than before,” Falconi said in an address to compatriots in Serbia, transmitted via the Twitter account of the French Embassy.
He said that the French economic interests, which have developed in Serbia in recent years, stimulated primarily by the visit of the French president to Belgrade in July 2019, have continued and progressed in this difficult situation.
He mentioned large projects as a continuation of the work of the Vanci company at the Belgrade Airport, a waste processing factory in Vinca and the construction of a subway in Belgrade, which, according to him, has moved from a hypothetical topic to reality in the last year.
Falconi also pointed out that the confirmation of the further development of economic relations is the fact that the economic delegation of Serbia is visiting France, where they will be received by the Minister of Economy Bruno Le Mer and other ministers and who will visit the subways in Paris and Lyon.
He also pointed out that, while saying this, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, is in Paris again, after a visit in July 2020, at the invitation of President Emanuel Macron.
The two officials will discuss economic and political issues, issues of Serbia’s path to the EU and everything else related to relations at the highest level at a working lunch, Falconi said.
The ambassador spoke to his compatriots about the health situation and the difficulties that everyone is facing due to the Covid crisis, and said that he is in a special position by being in Serbia, where the vaccination campaign began.
“Compared to all my colleagues in the world, I am very privileged to be able to tell you this,” Falconi said, adding that it is difficult to predict the outcome of the crisis, but that he is convinced that it is also a recommendation of the French authorities to be vaccinated, emphasizing that it is a personal decision.
In Serbia, all vaccines are offered to citizens, foreigners and Serbs, said Falconi and stated that the French authorities give priority to vaccines that are recognized in the EU and France, namely Pfizer Biontek, Moderna and AstraZeneca.
“This does not mean that others that are offered are dangerous or even ineffective, it just means that they are not given in France for the approval of the health authorities,” Falconi said, adding that “therefore there can be no opinion about them”, N1 reports.
