Assistance to Chinese firms in Serbia

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Construction Minister Zorana Mihajlovic today announced assistance to Chinese companies engaged in major projects in Serbia, due to the difficulties they have in China due to the virus corona epidemic.
“We have agreed to help wherever we can, both through the assistance of Serbian companies and also as the Government of Serbia”, Mihajlovic said after meeting with Chinese Ambassador Chen Bo and representatives of Chinese companies operating in Serbia.
Ambassador Chen said the situation with the virus corona epidemic was stabilizing, but that it affected not only the global Chinese and world economy but also the dynamics of joint major projects in Serbia due to the lack of workers and engineers from China, but also the supply of equipment and materials from China.
“The friendship between Serbia and China is steel. Just as China has always been with Serbia in beautiful and less beautiful moments, so is Serbia always with China and in beautiful and less beautiful moments, and when China is fighting this virus”, Minister Mihajlovic said.
She told reporters that she had talked with Ambassador Chen about how Chinese companies were solving the problems they were facing.
“Chinese workers are very important to us as they work on the largest infrastructure projects”, Mihajlovic said, recalling that they are now engaged in the construction of the express railway, to work on the section of the Preljina-Pozega highway and other projects.
She noted that these are all projects that contribute to the accelerated economic development of Serbia.
“We have a full understanding of all the problems of Chinese companies and the situation”, Mihajlovic said, noting that Serbia wants China to cope with the epidemic.
Chen said the Chinese economy is very open, but also that the impact of the epidemic on the Chinese and world economies is temporary and phased, and that the IMF and other countries have similar estimates.
“The situation with the epidemic is stabilizing these days and the number of patients is declining. In areas where the epidemic was relatively mild, economic recovery has begun. I am confident that after the epidemic, the Chinese economy will resume and that cooperation with Serbia will return to normal”, said Chen Bo.
She thanked Deputy Prime Minister Mihajlovic and the Government of Serbia for their willingness to help and support Chinese companies.
As she said, Chinese companies have already taken all measures to reduce the negative impact of the epidemic on their businesses.
Chen is convinced that Chinese companies will minimize the impact of the epidemic on joint projects.
“I am convinced that after the epidemic, we will have even more opportunities for our cooperation”, said the Chinese ambassador, and thanked the citizens and media in Serbia for solidarity with the Chinese people, who are facing difficult times, Dnevnik reports.
