The United States has postponed sanctions on the Serbian oil company NIS until October 8 or 9, following discussions with President Aleksandar Vučić. This marks the seventh delay, with the original start date set for October 1.
NIS CEO Kiril Tjurdenjev assured employees that potential disruptions in banking cooperation will not affect personal accounts and emphasized that the company will minimize the impact of sanctions on Serbian citizens. Experts note that while oil and fuel supplies could be affected, existing reserves can cover up to 100 days of demand. The Adriatic Pipeline (Janaf) continues supplying the Pančevo refinery.
President Vučić warned of a difficult winter and high costs due to sanctions, while State Secretary Ivan Bošnjak stressed the importance of ensuring NIS’s orderly operations before the sanctions take effect. Energy analyst Željko Marković cautioned that long-term sanctions could lead to fuel shortages and price increases. NIS will monitor the situation and keep employees and the public informed of any developments.
