Serbia’s irrigation investments fall short: Most systems non-operational despite €58 million spent

Despite over €58 million invested in irrigation systems from 2021 to 2024, Serbia still lacks fully functional irrigation infrastructure. Many constructed systems have not been put into use, even though some projects were completed. Delays in key planning documents, including the “Irrigation and Drainage Program in Serbia until 2031”, further hinder progress, according to the latest report by the State Audit Institution (DRI).
