Manufacturers of basic pharmaceutical products in Serbia have reported impressive financial outcomes for 2024, showcasing significant revenue growth and improved profitability despite only modest increases in production volumes. The overall revenues for the sector reached approximately €11.3 million, while net profits totaled around €1.4 million, indicating a continued financial strengthening compared to the previous year.
Leading the sector in profitability was Medico Domus d.o.o. based in Niš, which achieved a net profit of approximately €860,000, surpassing its competitors. The company’s revenue growth has been notable, increasing from about €2.8 million in 2022 to roughly €4.3 million in 2024. This growth reflects both heightened demand for its products and effective cost management strategies.
Zorka Pharma-Hemija d.o.o. from Šabac secured the second position in profitability with a net profit of around €525,000. Other manufacturers in the region, including those located in Vršac and other areas, also reported positive financial results, albeit at lower levels.
The data reveals a broader trend within Serbia’s pharmaceutical industry, where smaller and specialized manufacturers are increasingly targeting higher-margin product niches like dietary supplements and basic therapeutic preparations. Despite challenges posed by rising raw material costs and supply chain disruptions, these companies have managed to enhance their operational efficiency and increase employment, with workforce numbers across the sector rising by nearly 10 percent year-on-year.
While larger pharmaceutical firms continue to dominate export volumes and overall production value in Serbia, the robust performance of smaller domestic producers underscores a diversification within the industry and an increasing regional demand for specialized pharmaceutical products.
