The Video Game Industry Association of Serbia (SGA) has released its latest report on the domestic gaming industry for 2024, providing a detailed overview of the sector’s progress since 2017. While the global video game market is still navigating the post-pandemic recovery phase, Serbia’s gaming industry has demonstrated resilient growth.
According to the report, Serbian-made games have been downloaded nearly 300 million times on global platforms. The top 15 gaming companies in Serbia generated 214 million euros in revenue, reflecting a 22% increase compared to 2023. Currently, about 100 studios and teams are active in the country, with 84 new games under development.
The gaming industry in Serbia employs approximately 4,500 professionals, with 200 new jobs added since 2022. However, growth appears to be slowing down, with only 130 new positions expected to be created in 2025, signaling a transition into a more stable phase.
The report highlights some important trends: 31% of the workforce is female, with women leading a third of the teams. Additionally, 55% of studios are focused on developing original intellectual properties. Mobile games remain the dominant revenue source.
This year’s report also includes new data on the use of artificial intelligence in game development, project satisfaction levels, localization languages, company ownership structures, and the most popular gaming events in both Serbia and internationally.
Belgrade and Novi Sad continue to be the primary hubs for game development, with the most in-demand roles being in QA, programming, and 3D art. One of the biggest challenges remains finding experienced developers and senior staff for business support roles.
Despite the industry’s growth, companies face significant obstacles, including high tax rates, a lack of local support for game publishing platforms, and the absence of adequate tax incentives, which hinder further expansion.
