Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarović met with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to discuss Serbia’s current economic situation, recent achievements, and upcoming economic policy priorities, her office announced. Mesarović highlighted that Serbia’s key priorities include maintaining a stable economic environment, preserving and creating jobs, strengthening domestic industry and its capacities, and further attracting foreign direct investment.
She emphasized that Serbia, thanks to the responsible economic policies of the government and President Aleksandar Vučić, is on a solid path toward economic consolidation, growth, and development. Despite both internal and global challenges, Serbia is expected to be one of the fastest-growing economies in Europe in the near future.
Mesarović also stressed the importance of foreign direct investments, which reached five billion euros last year, noting that international companies view Serbia as an attractive destination for capital investment. She added that particular focus is placed on supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with a significant share of grants from the Ministry of Economy aimed at boosting business operations, production, and employment.
In the past year, approximately 1,200 companies and entrepreneurs received subsidies totaling 5.2 billion dinars.
The IMF mission, led by Annette Kjobe, arrived in Belgrade on May 28 to conduct the first review of Serbia’s non-financial three-year program. The visit is scheduled to conclude on June 11.
