The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, expressed optimism that the country’s economic growth will exceed three percent this year. Speaking from Seville, where he is attending the fourth UN International Conference on Development Financing, he highlighted hopes for favorable weather in July to boost agricultural growth.
He also discussed economic trends with the World Bank President, Ajay Bangu, and spoke with Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, about enhancing bilateral economic cooperation. A Spanish company is set to sign a contract soon with the Serbian government for the construction of a Danube bridge in Bačka Palanka, valued at around 126 million euros.
At the conference, Serbia plans to support the Seville Compromise as a new framework for financial development, although the President cautioned that short- and medium-term issues often hinder solutions to long-term problems, tempering expectations for such agreements.
Addressing recent protests and claims about fiscal instability, the President dismissed fears of a system collapse as unfounded and politically motivated, warning that attempts to destabilize the country only harm Serbia and its citizens.
