The construction of two BTO systems for overburden excavation at the Radljevo surface mine within the Kolubara Mining Basin is one of the priority projects for the Serbian government, with the Ministry of Mining and Energy closely monitoring all stages of its implementation, said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović.
The construction of new and the revitalization of existing mining equipment, as well as the opening of replacement production capacities, are crucial elements of investment activities for EPS, the minister emphasized, as reported by the Ministry’s website.
“The total investment in the two BTO systems at the Radljevo mine amounts to 180 million EUR. Once operational within a year, they will enable additional annual production of overburden in the amount of 16 to 19 million cubic meters, thereby creating all the necessary conditions for the start of coal exploitation from this mine next year. All activities are focused on ensuring the technological and infrastructural prerequisites for uninterrupted coal exploitation from surface mines, which will provide long-term reliable electricity production and greater energy security for Serbia,” stated Đedović Handanović.
The construction works for the two BTO systems for overburden excavation at the Radljevo surface mine were inspected by Dr. Ivan Janković, Assistant Minister for Geology and Mining, and Dušan Živković, General Director of EPS, who discussed the work schedule with the contractors.
Dušan Živković, General Director of EPS, stated that investments from EPS’s own funds are essential for the modernization of mining equipment.
“Since the beginning of the year, EPS has invested 3.8 billion dinars of its own funds into the mining sector. Here, at the assembly site of the Tamnava mines, intensive work is underway on the installation of two rotary excavators, two stackers, and two conveyor systems for the Radljevo mine. The work is being carried out by consortiums of contractors and employees of Kolubara-Metal. Such complex and extensive tasks require excellent coordination on all facilities, ensuring that the parts of the system are aligned to complete everything at the same time. Our common goal is to have all the equipment installed by the end of this year, so that both BTO systems can start operations in 2026,” Živković added.
