The number of online payments using cards and e-money in the second quarter of 2025 increased by 38.3 percent compared to the same period in 2024, the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) reported.
In Q2 2025, a total of 26.6 million online purchases were made, with 18.7 million on domestic websites and 7.9 million on foreign platforms. This growth contributed to a continued upward trend in e-commerce, with 50.2 million transactions recorded in the first half of 2025—35.1 million on domestic sites and 15.1 million on foreign sites.
Over the past five years, the total number of online purchases has grown on average by 8.7 million per half-year, resulting in more than three times the transactions in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2021. The NBS noted that the most used currencies in the first half of this year were the Serbian dinar, euro, and US dollar, accounting for 98.1 percent of all online payments.
