The Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) submitted an updated request to the U.S. administration before midnight seeking another extension of American sanctions, RTS reported. NIS is requesting the new license to continue operating without interruption after Wednesday, October 8, when the current deferral of full U.S. sanctions—imposed due to the company’s majority Russian ownership—is set to expire.
So far, the sanctions have been postponed eight times: six times for one-month periods, then at the end of September for just four days until October 1, and finally for an additional week. Earlier this month, NIS also renewed its request to be removed from the sanctions list, reportedly offering to sell 11.3% of its shares and agreeing to purchase a certain quantity of crude oil from the United States.
“NIS submitted an updated request for removal from the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) list on September 28. This is a lengthy and complex process, with the initial request having been submitted on March 14 of this year,” the oil company stated in a morning announcement.
