Minister of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection Zorana Mihajlovic today announced that the state will invest in new mining technology, equipment and miners’ safety.
Mihajlovic, who on the occasion of Miners’ Day visited Rembas mine, part of Resavica public enterprise, stressed that investing in new mining equipment and modern technology is a priority of the new government, adding that this has to be done if we are to increase coal production and the safety of miners.
She underlined that the government wants to help this public enterprise get back on its feet, however this cannot be done through state financial assistance only, but by raising the level of coal production.
Mihajlovic announced that apart from coal exploitation, Serbia has the capacity to exploit oil shale, especially in the Aleksinac basin, which has large shale reserves.
This job will most likely be realised through public tenders in order to find the best strategic partners, she observed.
The Minister noted that the government will not sell Resavica PE, but that the company will be preserved in its entirety and will not be divided into smaller individual sectors.
Mihajlovic will today visit public enterprise Kostolac thermal power plant and mines, located in Kostolac, as well as Kolubara mining basin in Lazarevac.
