More than 200 million euros a year will be invested in increasing Serbia’s energy efficiency

The Minister of Mining and Energy, Zorana Mihajlović, stated on TV K1 that increasing energy efficiency is a national goal and that it is one of the key elements in realizing the vision of a green Serbia, it was published on the website of the Ministry.
– Today in Serbia we consume 40% more energy than the average in EU countries. Increasing energy efficiency must become a national project and in the coming years we will invest in this area between 200 and 250 million euros, with the aim of reducing energy consumption in a few years. If we manage to help at least 80% of citizens replace carpentry and insulation, possibly install solar panels on their roofs, we will reduce the amount of energy we consume, and it is estimated that we throw the production of one thermal power plant out the window every year. The state will subsidize citizens in the amount of 50% of the total costs of replacing the solarium, insulation and installation of solar panels, and it takes at least four years to increase energy efficiency and reach the EU average. This year, we failed to provide all citizens with subsidies in the budget, given that the interest is huge, but we have saved 240 million euros for next year. People are aware of the importance of investing in energy efficiency, which leads to lower bills for electricity and heat – said Mihajlović, eKapija reports.
