Experts have varying opinions on the current response to the credit scheme for young people. Professor Ljubodrag Savić from the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade suggests that while it may appear that there is limited interest in the loans, the reality is that the demand is likely higher, with the issue lying elsewhere.
According to Savić, the main problem for many potential borrowers is not the availability of loans from banks, but the challenge of finding suitable apartments. “The issue lies in finding an apartment that meets the required size, is in a desirable location, and is eligible under the loan terms,” Savić explained to Nova Ekonomija.
He added that the demand is specifically for smaller apartments, which are limited in number. Given the bank and insurance procedures involved, Savić believes the actual number of loan applications may not reflect the true interest in the program.
On the other hand, President Aleksandar Vučić addressed the situation on Wednesday, revealing that 4,650 people have expressed interest in the loans. He urged young people to apply soon, emphasizing that the availability of funds is not unlimited.
