Dušan Bajatović, the CEO of Srbijagas, stated that he expects the deadline for the imposition of U.S. sanctions on the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) to be extended.
“There will be further delays in the sanctions, which is good for Serbia, but we cannot expect more than 30 days due to bureaucracy. The U.S. knows what can be done in 40 to 45 days… NIS covers 80 percent of the market in Serbia, and it’s difficult to replace that by importing from other countries,” Bajatović said in an interview with TV Pink. This comment comes in response to NIS’s request, which has been supported by the Serbian government, for another delay in the sanctions that the U.S. has announced due to Russian ownership in the company.
Bajatović further noted that following a change in NIS’s ownership structure, the company should be removed from the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) list and enter the process of lifting sanctions. However, he stated that this process would not be as straightforward.
