From June 1 to July 7, Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) recorded its highest electricity consumption on June 26, reaching 98 million kilowatt-hours. Despite heatwaves, EPS ensures a stable electricity supply for both citizens and industry in Serbia, noting that increased use of air conditioners during summer steadily raises consumption.
To maintain continuous electricity delivery without depleting reservoir reserves, EPS has been purchasing energy on the open market during so-called “solar hours,” when prices are lower than production costs, and sometimes even negative.
The average daily consumption during this period was about 84 million kWh, approximately 4.5 million kWh higher than the average daily consumption over the past 10 years, and 1 million kWh higher than the same period in 2024.
EPS reports stable and secure coal and electricity production in its facilities. Maintenance works in thermal and hydroelectric power plants are proceeding as planned, with most spring maintenance completed. Recent maintenance was done at Lim hydro plants – Uvac, Kokin Brod, and Bistrica.
Ongoing maintenance includes hydro plants Đerdap 1, Đerdap 2, Bajina Bašta, and Zvornik. The reversible hydro plant Bajina Bašta is revitalizing its second turbine, following the successful completion of the first turbine’s revitalization last year.
However, unfavorable hydrological conditions have lowered water levels, impacting hydroelectric production. This year’s hydroelectric power generation is approximately 20% lower than in 2024 despite all turbines being operational.
