Minister of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection Zorana Mihajlovic said that the Ministry is considering reintroducing two hours of cheaper electricity every day, including Sundays.
Mihajlovic told today’s edition of daily newspaper “Politika” that in this way those socially vulnerable would be helped.
The Minister pointed out that the lower rate from midnight until 8.00 in the morning would still be in force.
She said that electricity price will not increase and added that she will examine the possibility of higher collection of receivables and a more efficient operation of public enterprises Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS) and Srbijagas.
Mihajlovic indicated that the economy and citizens owe more than $ 900 million for electricity to EPS, adding that there are large outstanding debts towards Srbijagas as well.
The Minister pointed out that this is why a different way of collecting claims in both public companies needs to be introduced.
