Belgrade will acquire 100 new electric buses for EXPO 2027, including 15 double-articulated Higer buses valued at approximately 150 million euros. These buses will serve major routes connecting the EXPO complex in Surčin with various parts of the city.
Nine double-articulated buses will operate between the “National Stadium” railway station and EXPO, while six will run from Block 45 to the fairgrounds. Half of the buses will use battery power, and the other half will be equipped with supercapacitors. Chargers will be installed at six key city termini.
While this purchase is significant for public transport development, GSP Belgrade notes it does not address the critical shortage of trolleybuses, many of which are past their operational lifespan. Plans for new trolleybus purchases or public-private partnerships have been abandoned.
The designation of EXPO 2027 as a project of national importance is expected to expedite permits and terminus adaptations, which are scheduled for completion by mid-2026.
